Thanksgiving
The Wednesday before Thanksgiving my church had a Thanksgiving service. I sat next to my girlfriend. I am so thankful for her. The Thanksgiving service is one of the reasons I love the church I attend. Barely half of the church family shows up which is a shame, but it is a great service nonetheless. My girlfriend and I sat down next to each other with her family. My brother was on the other side of me. The service started off with an introduction by Pastor Tim. He used to be the youth pastor when I was in high school but he moved up to Associate pastor around the same timed I graduated. Funny how things work sometimes. We started by singing a couple of praise songs, worshiping our God who provides everything to us and of whom we are so thankful and grateful. Then there started a time of open mic, where anybody could stand up and share with the rest of the church family what they are thankful for. Older people shared stories of their broken denture, young kids told about their friends and family, newly married men shared about their wives. My girlfriend's dad stood up and gave thanks to God for his family and then he embarrassed me and gave thanks for me, that I am dating his daughter. I was taken aback. That was the stamp of approval I had been working for for over two years now. I was very thankful for that. I am also thankful for my school, that I can get a great education at a great price from great professors, especially my creative writing professor. He is very good. I am so grateful for this country, though, I believe it is falling in the wrong direction, I know that God is always in control and He is sovereign and I am eternally grateful for that. I am grateful for my loving and forgiving family. I am thankful for my church and the friends and family I have there. I just love life and the Creator of life. He is all we need, but He gives us more, He lavishes on us His unrelenting love. Happy Thanksgiving.
