The college republicans are right. Admitting someone or not admitting someone to college based on the color of their skin is racism. Affirmative action should not be racist, but it is made out to be because people that advocate it are saying that blacks are more disadvantaged than whites. I don't think it matters what color their skin is. I just see disadvantaged kids. The statement made by Tim Wise in the video about underprivileged groups and racial groups is racist in and of itself. Why link a bad thing like poverty to one race? Is he saying that all black people are poor? I surely don't believe so. He is linking two things that really have nothing to do with each other, race and social status. They should not be placed in the same sentence because that is racism.
I agree with helping underprivileged groups of people but not solely one color of people. I really don't think African Americans enslaved ancestry is affecting their availability at equal opportunity. I think it is the government that keeps people in poverty and government is the reason there are low income areas. The system that the federal government helps them is extremely inefficient. They just hand people money. So these people that get money anyway, don't have any incentive to get out on their own. Now one family had to make enough money to support two or more. We know this money is not put to good use because drug dealers raise their prices when welfare checks are sent out. The best way to fight poverty is through the community, the family or the Church. Those are the first circles that an individual is put in when they are born to this world. It doesn't make any sense to send money to Washington D.C. just to send it back to Philadelphia. Government is highly inefficient and people need to realize that central government is not the source for our answers it is the source of our problems.
